Meet Our New Board Members – Karla Robles

A Board of Directors is an essential (and required) piece of a nonprofit, responsible for guiding the organization toward a sustainable future. YNPN Phoenix’s future is bright as ever as we welcome some of the Valley’s top young talent to our board in 2016. Get to know them and say hi next time you see them at a YNPN Phoenix program!

    January 2016

  4. Favorite YNPN event or memory?

  5. Favorite podcast?
Serial - This American Life (could not stop listening!)

  6. Where did you grow up?
    Tucson, AZ

  7. What’s the best thing about working in Phoenix?
Having the opportunity to live in the sixth largest city in the country yet often feel like so many of us are interconnected.

  8. What is one of the most satisfying things about your work?
Being able to see when a student starts really believing they have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. As a first generation college graduate, I know first hand about many of the barriers and insecurities that all too often keep students from reaching their full potential. It is amazing to wake up every day and know that the work that I am blessed to do is changing the lives of hundreds of students across this city!

  9. What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone who’s new to the nonprofit sector?
If you are truly passionate about the work you are doing, you are going to work twice as hard as you would anywhere else. You will most likely work in an organization where you will be asked to wear many hats and maybe sometimes question if so much hard work really worth it. However, there will always be moments where you will be reminded about the lives you are changing and the important work that you are doing, and if only for a moment, the long hours at the office will seem a little less annoying.

  10. What do you hope to contribute to YNPN Phoenix?
I hope to be able to be part of a team that continues to grow the YNPN Phoenix footprint. There is so much this organization has to offer to hundreds of young professionals AND nonprofit organizations throughout the Valley. I am hopeful that my experience in the sector will help me contribute ideas by which we can continue to market the organization’s value proposition.
